The international Raoul Wallenberg Foundation is pleased to announce a series of activities, events, and campaigns to be organized throughout the year in commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of Raoul Wallenberg’s birthday.
Events include:
• 13 December 2012. A Raoul Wallenberg memorial plaque was unveiled at the John Wesley College in Budapest. The plaque was unveiled by Pastor Gabor Ivanyi, Rector of the College; by Prof. Jozsef Schhweitzer, retired Chief Rabbi and by Dr. Ferenc Orosz, Chairman of the Raoul Wallenberg Association. The representative of the Armenian Apostolic Church was also present.
• 12 December: mass in honor of Jean Marie Fox, by the international Raoul Wallenberg Foundation in the halls of the Provincial Palace of Luxembourg. Organized by the Governor of the Province of Luxembourg, Bernard Caprasse. At 11 o’clock.
• 9 December: the 13va co-naming ceremonyof the 13rd. Avenue in Brooklyn NY, in tribute to Raoul Wallenberg. Organized by Council member David Greenfield. At 12 pm on 13th Avenue and 50th Street Brooklyn, NY
• 6 December. Ceremony of bestowal of the “2012 Raoul Wallenberg Centennial Medal”. Thursday, December 6th, 2012, at 4:30 pm at the Cymbalista Jewish Heritage Center Tel Aviv University. At the Ceremony the “2012 Raoul Wallenberg Centennial Medal” will be bestowed to: Prof. Haim Avni, Prof. Dina Porat, Mr. Max Grunberg, The City of Eilat (represented by its Mayor, Mr. Meir Halevy and by the former Honorary Consul of Sweden, Mr. Jacky Pri-Gal) Speakers: H.E. Ambassador of Sweden, Ms. Elinor Hammarskjold, A senior representative off the International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation and The laureates. There will be a songs concert by Shuly Nathan and a film screening : “The Power of One” – Short documentary about Raoul Wallenberg. The event will be conducted in Hebrew and English, with simultaneous translation.
• 3rd December. US Embassy in Norway. Reception in honor of the centenary of Raoul Wallenberg
• 22 November. Raoul Wallenberg Panel Discussion. Ljubljana, Slovenia. Speakers: Israeli, Swedish and Hungarian Ambassadors. Keynote speaker Dr. Danilo Türk. Panel members: Eli Yossef. Raoul Wallenberg Foundation, Dr. Oto Luthar. Slovenia, ZRC SAZU, Martin Jaigma. Slovenia-Estonia Peace Institute, Dr. András Gerő. Hungary. A 23’ documentary on Wallenberg will be shown.
• 30 October. Argentinian Consulate in New York City. Armand Vallee Exhibit. The IRWF, in partnership with the Argentinian Consulate of New York, presents an art exhibit in commemoration of Raoul Wallenberg’s Centennial. The exhibit features the work of Canadian painter Armand Vallee and his Wallenberg Series, consisting of 14 paintings that narrate the Swedish diplomat’s quest to save persecuted Jews in Budapest.
• 28 October. Event at the 92nd Y. The IRWF was invited to be a promotional sponsor of a symposia organized by The Association for Jewish Culture in Sweden and hosted by the 92Y in New York City in commemoration of Raoul Wallenberg’s Centennial. Entitled “In Memory of Raoul Wallenberg: The Transformation of Memory Jewish Perspectives,” features a panel of distinguished artists and writers from both cities who engage in a discussion about the theme of memory in their literary and artistic works. The event is held simultaneously at the 92ndY and in Stockholm.
• 24 October: Seminar in commemoration of Raoul Wallenberg in the Palacio San Martin, Buenos Aires, Argentina. See Invitation (Spanish).
• 23 October: Opening of the commemorative bust of Raoul Wallenberg done by the FIRW in the city of La Plata, Argentina. See invitation (Spanish).

• Wednesday, 19 September 2012 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Museum of Jewish Heritage: A Living Memorial to the Holocaust 36 Battery Place (Downtown Manhattan) In marking the centenary of the birth of Raoul Wallenberg, award-winning authors Kati Marton of the United States and Bengt Jangfeldt of Sweden will discuss the heroic efforts of the Swedish diplomat to rescue Jews in Hungary and his mysterious disappearance after World War II. Sponsored by United Nations Department of Public Information’s Holocaust Programme and The Permanent Missions of Hungary and Sweden to the United Nations.
• August 8: UN S ecretary General Ban Ki-moon receives a IRWF delegation headed by Mr. Baruch Tenembaum at the UN Headquarters, 1 United Nations Plaza, New York.
• August 4: Ceremony by the statue of Raoul Wallenberg in Tel Aviv with the attendance of high school students and professor Eli Yossef.
• August 4: Ceremony in London. Location: Raoul Wallenberg statue in Cumberland Grand Place.
• The municipality of the city of Bat Yam in Israel will organize a an essay competition for secondary school students about the legacy of Raoul Wallenberg. Raoul Wallenberg Foundation will present awards to the participants.

• Together in collaboration with the JCC Manhattan, the IRWF organized a screening of the film THE RESCUERS, by Michael King. • The University of Tel Aviv and the IRWF will host the event “The Legacy of Raoul Wallenberg” on the 67th anniversary of the diplomat’s disappearance. The “Raoul Wallenberg 2012 Grants” will be bestowed during the occasion to doctoral students Orna Keren-Carmel and Yehonatan Alsheh. • Thanks to the request by IRWF, the UN Secretary-General will mention Raoul Wallenberg in his message for the UN International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust. Friday, January 27 – 11:00am-1:00pm – UN General Assembly Hall in New York
• A play by Yossef Eli will be released in March in Israel, sponsored by the Raoul Wallenberg Foundation. The leading roles will be performed by students of a secondary school in Kiryat Malachi.
• Eduactor Eli Yossef will deliver special lectures to various audiences, to mark the centenary of the birth of Raoul Wallenberg.
• The Raoul Wallenberg Foundation will collaborate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel in the organization of celebrations around the world. Activities to take place later this year include:
• Campaign requesting Ministers of Education to name schools after Raoul Wallenberg to be launched.
• Educational program “Wallenberg at School” to be presented in Argentine Schools.
• Campaign requesting Mayors, Governors and other government officials to name streets, parks and other public spaces after Raoul Wallenberg to be launched.
• Special Commemorative Medal to be issued in commemoration to the Raoul Wallenberg Centennial (1912-2012).
• Raoul Wallenberg bust to be commissioned and donated to the city of La Plata, Buenos Aires, and other cities.
• Campaign to get US States to proclaim Raoul Wallenberg Commemorative Day to be launched.
• Campaign to get Jewish organizations across the world to commemorate the Raoul Wallenberg Centennial with their community.
