The tragic and untimely death of Sweden’s foreign minister, Ms Anna Lindh, leaves us all in a state of deep shock and disbelief. The assassin who stabbed her took the life of a young mother, a bright politician, a brave defender of human rights, head of the same Ministry that, back in the 40’s, had dispatched Raoul Wallenberg to his diplomatic post in Budapest, where he managed to save the lives of tens of thousands of Jews from the Nazis.
As an international organisation involved in remembering the life and work of men and women who went beyond the call of duty to save fellow human beings facing persecution and death at the hands of the Nazi regime we feel that the absurd death of Ms Lindh is a blow to all those who believe in democracy, freedom and respect for human beings.
The International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation pays respect to this oustanding Swedish Foreign Minister. May her memory be blessed.
