Nostra aetate
28 October 2002 Celebration of the 37th anniversary of the councilar declaration Nostra aetate in which the Catholic Church condemned anti-semitism and opened a new era of interreligious relations. For the second year in a row, the Dionysia Center organized a day of cultural and artistic celebration. The event saw the participation of Cardinal Walter Kasper, president of the Pontifical Council for Relations with the Jews, Rav Adin Steinsaltz, president of the Israeli Institute for the Talmud, Rav David Rosen, American Jewish Committee, Rav Riccardo di Segni, Chief Rabbi of Rome, Alberto Melloni, Foundation for Religious Sciences Pope John XXIII, and Dan Madigan, Institute for the Study of Religions and Cultures, Gregorian University. The speeches were alternated by the musical interludes of Antonella Ruggiero and David De Or. The two artists joined their voices in an extraordinary interpretation of the Hallelujah and the Kirye Eleison. On the occasion, Rav Steinsaltz and Prof. Melloni, in his position as member of the Angelo Roncalli International Committee, awarded Maria Nicoletta Gaida, president of the Dionysia Center, with the first Roncalli medal, recently established by the Raoul Wallenberg Foundation as a recognition to those, who in a world where racial and religious hatred continues being a scourge, operate and fight for just causes and stand up for others…The afternoon featured a round table discussion entitled: ” accepting the other”, while in the evening, Antonella Ruggiero and David De Or, moved and delighted an audience of 800 with their portentous talent and generosity.
