On Tuesday, November 6, 2001 the academic showing ‘Argentina: Refuge and Exile was presented’, in charge of Rudolf Barth, Director of the Goethe Institut, presented the Vice-president of the IRWF, Dr. Natalio Wengrower, who informed about the activities and projects of the organization. Among them, the projected Monument to the saviors of humankind to be placed at the University City in the city of Buenos Aires. Likewise, he remembered a new anniversary of The Crystal Night, pogrom that took place in Germany on November 9, 1938 as well as its coincidence with the calendar of the fall of the Berlin Wall, in 1989.
The audience amounted more than 100 people among who were present community, institutionary and diplomatic leaders as well as numerous members of the German-Jewish community in Argentina and Holocaust survivors.
Andreas Nachama, author of many books, former President of the Berlin Jewish community and Director of the showing ‘Topography of Horror’ disserted about the Jews’ situation in the Germany of the ’30 and their social movements towards the exile.
Later, Johanna Hopfengaertner, student of history at the Berlin Free University, made a preview of the thesis she is preparing in Buenos Aires due to a scholarship granted by the Wallenberg Foundation. Hopfengaertner spoke about the exile and the arrival of German – Jews to Argentina, especially from the perspective of the role of immigrant women. Her job will be published in Argentina by the IRWF during the year 2002.
