IRWF Founder Nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize

The name of the founder of the International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation Baruch Tenembaum appeared on the list of possible 2009 Nobel Peace Prize nominees. The list is published by the International Peace Research Institute (PRIO) in Oslo, Norway and is based on the information leaked to the press and world wide web. This dates coincides with the London betting house ”Ladbrokes”, known as the ”lottery of the Nobel Prize”, which included Baruch Tenembaum in the list that was made one day prior to the Nobel Prize announcement.

American States Proclaim Wallenberg Day

Following the initiative of the IRWF the Governors of Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, West Virginia and Wyoming officially proclaimed October 5, 2009, Raoul Wallenberg Day in their states. Some of the governors have already supported this action, others, have joined us for the vey first time. We hope that in the years to follow we’ll continue to have their support in keeping the memory on this great man alive.

New Article on Raoul Wallenberg

New article of Joshua Prager published in the Jerusalem Post brings the first hand accounts of the people who knew Raoul Wallenberg and had been very close to him. In conversations with his sister, the closest school friend, the love interests and one of his collaborators during the WWII in Budapest, Joshua Prager revels new, more private aspects of Wallenberg’s personality.

Ann Froman’s Exhibition at the IRWF

The International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation and Casa Argentina en Israel – Tierra Santa have the pleasure of presenting the ”Heroes” exhibition of Ann Froman.

Considered a true innovator and one of our greatest living sculptors, Ann Froman is an internationally recognized artists whose sculptures have found a place in many prestigious collections, including those of Time Warner, Inc., March of Dimes, Harvard University , Brooklyn College, the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute, Temple Emanu-El, and St Patrick’s Cathedral.

One of the art pieces that is featured in the ”Heroes” exhibit is ”Survival,” a sculpture in bronze that depicts Raoul Wallenberg and his struggle to help others.

On show until December 23, 2009.


The IRWF starts the collaboration with Dr. Peter Bulow

The International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation is proud to announce a new collaboration with Dr. Peter Bulow, a sculpture artist and an assistant professor in psychiatry at the Columbia University. Dr. Bulow has been commissioned by the IRWF for a series of sculptures of the Rescuers of the Holocaust. First two peaces that Dr. Bulow is currently working on are the sculptures of Raoul Wallenberg and Brazilian rescuer Ambassador Luiz Martins de Souza Dantas. Dr. Bulow himself feels greatly connected to the subject since both his mother and his uncles were rescued by Raoul Wallenberg.


New Honorary Member of the IRWF

Dr. Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, a structural biologist and a winner of the 2009 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, is a new honorary member of the IRWF. Dr. Ramakrishnan joined the list of more then 200 heads of state, Nobel Prize laureates and other distinguished personalities from all walks of life who support the mission of the International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation as its honorary members.


100-Years Anniversary of Raoul Wallenberg’s birth

Following the suggestion of the Raoul Wallenberg’s niece Louise von Dardel the IRWF has gladly accepted to join the organization of the world-wide celebration of the 100th anniversary of Raoul Wallenberg’s birth. Born on August 4, 1912 Raoul Wallenberg was last seen on January 17th 1945 when he was arrested by the Soviet Army after saving the lives of tens of thousands Jews during the Holocaust. It is our honor to join the celebration off the life of one of the greatest heroes of the mankind.
