Wallenberg’s birthday commemorated in New York

The International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation celebrated Raoul Wallenberg’s 94th birthday with a series of activities around the world. In New York, two different events were planed to commemorate such a special occasion.

On Friday August 4th, friends and volunteers of the International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation gathered to place flowers at the Hope monument. Some of the visitors included Agnes Adachi, a woman saved by Wallenberg; Lars Ostling and Helen Daun Rosengren, Consul for Economic and Commercial Affairs and Information Officer of the Consulate of Sweden; as well as Baruch Tenembaum and Elin Borg, the founder and a Swedish volunteer of the International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation, among many others.

The Jerusalem Post. Fate of a hero

Sir, – It’s Raoul Wallenberg’s birthday today and over 60 years since his disappearance. Hasn’t the time finally come for his fate to be revealed? The ongoing ”100,000 Names for 100,000 Lives” campaign has already accumulated over 22,000 signatures in an effort to solve the mystery, and 425 pages of it have been presented to President Vladimir Putin, other world leaders and the UN.

The Jewish Press. Wallenberg Remembered

Raoul Wallenberg, rescuer of approximately 100,000 Hungarian Jews during the Holocaust, turns 94 on August 4. Whether he is still alive to celebrate his birthday remains a mystery.

Wallenberg, a Swedish diplomat, arrived in Hungary in July 1944 as first secretary to the Swedish legation in Budapest, at the behest of the American War Refugee Board’s representative in Stockholm. The Nazis had already deported or murdered 440,000 Jews before Wallenberg arrived; 230,000 remained.

Zenit. Wallenberg Foundation to Be Honored

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina, AUG. 20, 2006 (Zenit.org).- Argentina’s Mother Teresa Popular Library will honor the Raoul Wallenberg International Foundation with a community service award.

According to the executive commission in charge of awarding the Mother Teresa of Calcutta prize, the foundation has ”developed a cultural educational movement in favor of life, solidarity and dialogue between nations and men, seeking truth and universal justice.”

Child’s Day was celebrated in Argentina on August 13th. On the occasion the Wallenberg Foundation visited the Wallenberg Center located in ”La Juanita” neighborhood in Gregorio de Laferrere, headquarters of the Movimiento de Trabajadores Desocupados de La Matanza (Unemployed Workers Movement of La Matanza), a non-governmental organization led by Toty Flores and Soledad Bordegaray.

Minister of Culture remembers Raoul Wallenberg

The ceremony took place on August 4th, in Buenos Aires, next to the statue of the missing diplomat.

Raoul Wallenberg saved tens of thousands of people condemned to death by the Nazis. He was a role model of courage and altruism. Therefore, the International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation organized in Buenos Aires a ceremony in his honor to mark the 94th anniversary of his birth. The tribute took place next to the statue that commemorates the ”Hero without a Grave”, located on the corner of Figueroa Alcorta and Austria.

A ceremony will take place today on the 94th anniversary of the Swedish diplomat’s birth.

Wallenberg helped over 100 thousand Jews to escape the nazis. The soviet army captured him and from then on no one knew anything else about him.

A ceremony in commemoration of Raoul Wallenberg will take place this afternoon in the corner of Figueroa Alcorta and Austria, beside the ”Hero without a Gravestone”-monument in his honor. The tribute to the Swedish diplomat, who saved over 100 Jews from the nazis in Hungry during the brutal years of the Second World War, coincides with the 94th anniversary of his birth.
