Child’s Day was celebrated in Argentina on August 13th. On the occasion the Wallenberg Foundation visited the Wallenberg Center located in ”La Juanita” neighborhood in Gregorio de Laferrere, headquarters of the Movimiento de Trabajadores Desocupados de La Matanza (Unemployed Workers Movement of La Matanza), a non-governmental organization led by Toty Flores and Soledad Bordegaray.
Majo and Ricardo Faerman organized the celebration which consisted in the giving of clothes and bicycles to more than 50 children that attend the kindergarten that works in the center.
This kindergarten is the core of an associative project in which its members do not accept State-run social plans and work in the manufacturing of clothes designed by renowned Martin Churba.
The volunteers of the IRWF, Perla Graisman (IRWF Global Development Director), Silvia Stisman, Raquel Donato and Alicia Bronstein, as well as the political leaders Patricia Bullrich (Unión por Todos), María Eugenia Estenssoro (ARI) , Carlos March (AVINA Foundation), Carlos Manuelides (Federacion Economica de la Patagonia Sur); Tito Cheme (Federacion Economica de Corrientes), Luis Quiñones (Camara de Comercio de Quilmes); Carlos Giardino (CGE Capital) and Pedro Mosso (Federacion Economica Santiageña) were among the attendants.
On July 2004 the Wallenberg Foundation opened the kindergarten classroom ”Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli” in the Wallenberg Center with the presence of Cardinal Walter Kasper, President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and of the Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews.
